To brew a potion, put bottles in the bottom slots of a Brewing Stand, load Blaze Powder into its fuel slot, and put the brewing ingredient in the top slot. For Strength, brew water bottles with Nether Wart first, then brew the resulting Awkward Potions with Blaze Powder.
Set up your brewing stand
You need a Brewing Stand, Blaze Powder for fuel, Glass Bottles, water, and the ingredients for your chosen potion. To make the stand, combine one blaze rod with three cobblestone, or use one of the stone alternatives shown below.

Cobbled Deepslate
CobblestoneUse glass bottles on water to fill them. You can brew three matching bottles at once with a single ingredient. Fill all three bottom slots to get more potions from your supplies.
Brew a Potion of Strength
- Fill up to three bottles with water and place them in the bottom slots.
- Load blaze powder into the fuel slot.
- Put Nether Wart in the top slot and wait for the bottles to become Awkward Potions.
- Put a separate blaze powder in the top slot. When brewing finishes, collect your Potions of Strength.
Blaze powder does two jobs here: one batch fuels the stand, and another goes in the top slot to make Strength. A regular drinkable Strength potion lasts 3 minutes. Follow the Strength recipe for the full chain and effects.
Brew Weakness without Nether Wart
For Potion of Weakness, brew a Fermented Spider Eye directly into water bottles. Skip the Nether Wart for this one. You still need blaze powder to fuel the stand. Add gunpowder afterward if you need the splash version.
Make a potion stronger, longer, or throwable

For Strength, choose longer or stronger: you can’t have both. The times above are for drinkable potions; the Strength variants list the other forms. To make a lingering potion, add gunpowder first, then dragon’s breath.
Why won’t my potion brew?
Check the fuel gauge, then the bottles and top ingredient. For Strength, did you brew the water with Nether Wart first? Blaze powder added straight to water won’t make Strength.
