An overgrown Abandoned Camp in a meadow.

A **white wool tent and an unlit campfire** are the signs of an Abandoned Camp. Search the tent for supplies, then check underneath and around it for a hidden copper chest.

## Where camps generate

Camps generate in these 18 Overworld biomes:

| Area | Eligible biomes |
| - | - |
| Forests and groves | Forest, Birch Forest, Old Growth Birch Forest, Flower Forest, Dappled Forest, Cherry Grove, Pale Garden, Windswept Forest |
| Taigas | Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga |
| Other areas | Bamboo Jungle, Sparse Jungle, Meadow, Savanna, Swamp, Wooded Badlands |

In an older world, head into unexplored terrain; camps won’t appear in chunks generated before the update.

## Find a camp with a command

With cheats enabled or operator permissions, run this in the Overworld to find the nearest camp:

```mcfunction
/locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp
```

The command searches all 18 camp variants and returns coordinates. To look for a camp in a specific biome, use its structure ID instead:

```mcfunction
/locate structure minecraft:abandoned_camp_dappled_forest
```

## Recognize the tent

The roof is made of [white wool stairs](/items/white-wool-stairs.md), held up by fences. Look for patches of dirt, gravel, and paths around it. Some tents have holes in the roof or leaves and cobwebs growing through them, which makes them harder to spot among trees.

Look for an unlit [campfire](/items/campfire.md), [barrels](/items/barrel.md), [chests](/items/chest.md), [straw beds](/items/straw-bed.md), and [cushions](/items/white-cushion.md). Some camps have a small crop patch.

## Check all three container types

| Container | Examples of possible loot | Maps |
| - | - | - |
| Barrel | Bread, coal, straw beds, white cushions; one bundle, wooden axe, or fishing rod | None |
| Common chest | Arrows, a compass, leads, a saddle, copper equipment, a spyglass | A camp map, if its destination is found |
| Secret oxidized copper chest | Diamonds or potions, metal ingots, and sometimes iron equipment | One of seven structure-map types, if its destination is found |

1. Search inside the tent and around the campfire for visible containers.
2. Check behind and beneath the camp’s blocks for an [oxidized copper chest](/items/oxidized-copper-chest.md). Not every camp has one.

A [camp map](/items/abandoned-camp-map.md) from the common chest sends you to a different biome. Its name tells you which one. Sometimes the game’s search for a destination fails, leaving the chest without a camp map. The secret chest’s map can lead to an [Ancient City](/items/buried-ancient-city-map.md), [Mineshaft](/items/buried-mineshaft-map.md), [Desert Pyramid](/items/desert-pyramid-map.md), [Jungle Pyramid](/items/jungle-pyramid-map.md), [Trial Chambers](/items/buried-trial-chambers-map.md), [Warm Ocean Ruins](/items/warm-ocean-ruins-map.md), or [Woodland Mansion](/items/woodland-mansion-map.md).

See the [explorer map guide](/guides/explorer-maps.md) for help following or copying a map.
